BACK TO SCHOOL, THRIFTED WOOLS

Beautiful gray and camel skirts I picked up at Houston's Vintage Oasis. The gray was $18 and the camel $22. These types of skirts can go with just about anything. I paired the first with a classic white button down from Anthropologie that was on sale for $19 with free shipping! I also wore my black Calvin Klein pumps. Stick with a rounded toe if you want a more traditional look. For the second skirt I went a bit more trendy, pairing it with one of my favorite graphic tees that I no longer wear because it is too short. It was thrifted years ago from Buffalo Exchange. I also wore my houndstooth belt thrifted for around $4 from Plato's Closet. I matched this outfit with some cream peep-toe flats (not pictured) to keep it summer-y. It is a great transitional look though. Throw on a cropped sweater and some tights and it's ready for fall!

LET'S GO ANTIQUING!

This is just a list of thing I like to keep my eye peeled for when I trove for treasures. Some of these items I have too many of, others I have yet to discover :]

[Mid-Century Pieces]
It's hard to call these babies antiques because they still look as fresh as ever. They truly are classics.

[The Trunk]
A good trunk is hard to find also, mainly because those selling them recognize how priceless they truly are. However if you find a large enough one, these can make for a great coffee table or side table.

[Vintage National Geographics]
These are what I was talking about when I said 'have too many of.' I just can't help it! I love the old ads and pictures, not to mention that signiature yellow looks fab on shelves! I recently got some for super cheap.. 18 for $2! This averages out to around 11 cents a pop. I've seen antique stores sell these babies for around $2+ so I would recommend shopping around for them.

[Old Books]
I am also a sucker for old books! No matter what its about, if it has a great cover and was published before 1950.. I go weak in the knees. Of course its a rather shallow obsession.. but if you like to decorate as I do then you understand that you can get some great ones for rather cheap as well.

[China, Dishes, and Tea Cups]
I really admire my moms collection of blue and whites. Good sets of china are difficult to find as well. Most are not fully intact and if they are, there are bound to be chips. Plus aquiring quality pieces will cost you a pretty penny.

[Notions]
I have yet to find a good set of old notions I can't live without.. but I can't wait to start looking for one!

So there you have it. What do you want to collect?

I'M A SCANOGRAPHER!

These are just some self portraits I took with my EPSON Artisan 810 all-in-one art printer. It's been super fun playing around with it. I got it on sale for around $180 from lik $300 I think and I'm pretty pleased. I also started a new blog because of it! But I'll make a post about that later. Anyways, I think its fun to explore new ways you normally art. Go out and find some conventional things and see what you can come up with. Happy scanning!

P.S. The only thing edited in these photos is the size :]

Soooo

I've kind of been interested in photography again. I've had my Canon Rebel XTi for a couple years and really haven't done much with it. I'm interested in getting some new lenses for it so that I'll have a wider range, no pun intended, of images I can capture and create. I have 3 particular types in mind, and unfortunatly they don't come cheap. However, the cool thing about the model of camera I own is that the same mount is that same as the super mega ridiculously professional Canons. Whichhhh meannnnss if I ever decide to upgrade, the lenses would work great haha. But, I really don't intend on doing that anytime soon.

NOUVELLE VAGUE!!!

What on earth is nouvelle vague, one might say.. it is the French New Wave film movement that is near and dear to my hearts. It included actresses Anna Karina and Brigitte Bardot. Two of my favorites, which happen to be work of the fabulous Jean-Luc Godard, include Pierrot le Fou and Une Femme Est Une Femme. Here are a few quotes from Une Femme Est Une Femme, or A Woman is A Woman ;]

WHY ARE YOU CRYING?
BECAUSE I WISH I COULD BE BOTH LITTLE YELLOW ANIMALS AT THE SAME TIME.
YOU ALWAYS WANT THE IMPOSSIBLE.

I'M THINKING THAT I EXIST.

IS A HAPPY EVENT DIFFERENT FROM AN EVENT THAT'S HAPPY?

IN COMEDIES AND TRAGEDIES ALIKE AT THE END OF ACT THREE, THE HEROINE HESITATES, HER FATE UNCERTAIN. CORNIELLE AND MOLIERE CALL IT SUSPENS...ION.

JE SUIS UNE FEMME!!

It really is a divine little film, I recommend you see it before you die.

STRANGER THAN FRICTION

Little known fact about myself, I have always been fascinated by strangers. Maybe it's creepy or weird haha but when I see people I can't help but formulate imaginary questionnaires intended for them. I am not really afraid of them. The whole Never talk to strangers! mantra wasn't very institutional in my household. In fact, I think it was the opposite. Seeing as I am an only child, it was quite the norm for me to associate with friends of my parents or at least people they seemed to know/meet. I know this post seems pretty random, but I've just been thinking about it lately. I know that while I may have been raised to gravitate towards random people, most others have not. It makes me think again to the other common American mantra that You can be anything you want to be! To me this one says that you can theoretically create yourself, and in that statement alone it seems that you need no help in doing so. So what really are we teaching society? Kids grow up with trust issues and a mindset that they have to figure it all out on their own. Maybe this seems a bit dramatic, but just look around you.. divorce rates are insane, and rape is common. I guess all of this goes to say, choose your words wisely. Just because a phrase or saying has been said for years, doesn't mean its actually true. Imagine if our society were more like one big community? I don't know how socialist this sounds, but I'm coming more from a relational perspective rather than a political one. Imagine if people were more reliable rather than independent. Imagine if my agenda and your agenda was our agenda. I'm all for people being more collective and united than alone and divided haha. Ok I think I'm done rambling for today. Go invite a group of strangers to lunch, and really listen to what they have to say. You may be pleasantly surprised :]
