ABOUT TO GET SCHOOLED

Soooo school starts in almost a month and I'm anticipating quite the world load (even though I'm only taking 3 classes).

I'm taking Women in Literature from the same professor I took my Comp. II class with. I'm excited but if she's anything like she was in Comp. II, I will have to read a ton, write a ton, and do a lot of projects. However I'm hoping the class will be small so we can have some really good discussions.

I haven't taken History yet, so I'll be taking U.S. History before 1877. I'm guessing this is going to have a lot of reading as well. But hopefully most of it will be vocab, which I kind of have a nack for. Hopefully not too many papers but you never know.

The third class I'm taking is Philosophy. I really have no idea what to expect from this one. I looked up the booklist on the campus website and it included works from Ghandi, Rene Descartes, and Mary Wollstonecraft. I think this could be a class I will really enjoy, but its one of those that really depends on how passionate the professor is. Believe it or not professors at CC aren't always rotten. So cross your fingers!

P.S. Is it sad that I already want to buy school supplies? I think that's my favorite part about school. I could collect pens and notebooks all day long.
P.S.S. I am that pony on top of the books. Number 1 student pony!!!!

I've really started to like this band, especially while driving in the car. I couldn't find a vid for one of my favorite songs they wrote called Indian Angel, but I highly recommend you look it up. I did find one vid I thought was interesting, a tad contrived but interesting none-the-less.

Enjoy :]

BOOKMARK: HOMER AND LANGLEY

I heard about this book when I attended the Margarett Root Brown reading series hosted by http://www.inprinthouston.org/ . E.L. Doctorow is a creative genius and this book has actually been in the back of my mind for far too long. The book is Doctorow's depiction of how the famed Collyer brothers lived preceding their gruesome and unsightly death. For those who are unfamiliar with their tale, the Collyers lived in New York in the early to mid 1900s. They were known for their snobbish upper crusty lifestyle, but their story hit its peak at the discovery of the two brothers dead in their Harlem brownstone amidst tons and tons of collections, newspapers, and heirlooms. I'm mid-way through and loving it! Can't wait to finish it though.

I LOVE

when you want something so much that it hurts. That it scares you to death. That the thought of it makes you feel excited and alive. That you are so close you can taste it. That it makes you dream of not only who you will become, but what it will make of your life here and now and in this moment.

I'm really praying to get into the college in Cairo. As I'm writing my essay I find myself getting a bit teary-eyed. To be honest I don't think I've ever wanted something so much as this in my life. I have big dreams and a big heart to learn and love and be, and with that said I feel like this could be an experience of a lifetime. I feel vulnerable because I want to make sure that in 500 words or less I gut myself on this paper so that those who will be evaluating me cannot say no. All of this is really strange, and the day I send my application in I will probably have to take off because I'm sure the stress just might be too much for me to handle.

I want to eat koshary in the streets of Cairo and be minutes away from the largest museum of Eqyptian antiquities in the world. I want to study and be immersed in thought. Ughhhh I just get so excited! I know it seems I'm only looking at the fun side of this, but the truth is.. if I get accepted and enroll, this just might be the hardest thing I have ever had to face. Obviously Egyptian culture is vastly different from our way of life here in America, and in particular Texas. Like I said, I am excited.. but I am scared to death. Please pray for this, that my essay is complete and that those reading it as well as the rest of my application feel as confident as I do. Hey world are you ready to jump? I am..

FEELING PHILOSOPHICAL

Joy is eternal.

Don't gain your strength from people, people are always changing. . the world is always changing. Never let it give you your name or define who you are.

Remember remember remember, and love love love.

Be honest and open, when you lie to others it makes it that much easier to lie to yourself.

Smile because you can't help it, not because you have to.

Do not simply walk with determination or even speak with determination. Live with it.

Our need to explain and understand the internal only points to something external.

I say these things not to judge or pull anyone down. I say them to myself and I'd say them to each of you personally. Be intentional.
(As I'm writing these down, or I guess typing, I'm sitting in a local coffee shop in Houston called Agora. I reached down to take a sip of my iced coffee and looked up to see framed bio of Socrates haha. I promise I didn't choose this seat on purpose, I was just looking for a wall outlet! Also by no means am I calling myself Socrates haha, I just thought it was funny.)
